LINK - "SECTION 8" OFFICIAL VIDEO

So this is our first production size video shoot that we got tasked to do for my man Link. We did a shoot with Link a while back for Bleu Magazine and was featured in the On the Rise section as one of Chicago's up and coming artist. It was then that he approached us with the idea of shooting his first video. Automatically I jumped to the challenge. We story boarded the scenes and got to shooting the first week of May. We had 3 in our crew that included Alfonso Monroy (first cam), Salvador Mendoza (second cam/ behind the scenes) and myself directing the shoot. Couldn't have asked for a better crew. I'll be honest, you kind of need 4 minimum. Someone directing, 1st and 2nd cameras and lighting. Ran into a couple bumps down the road but nonetheless a successful shoot. Mad love to Link and his family and friends. Stay tuned for the next video.

Interview in LA!

So last month my trusty friend and assistant Alfonso and I went to LA to exhibit some of my work for the Veterans Art Show at CalState LA. While at the the show, Dot at twomaverix interviewed me and asked me about my work and overall aspirations. I was stoked to spread the word Billy Graham style! She aired the interview online but I missed the broadcast. Dot was kind enough to put the interview on her website. If you have time to check it out, please do, its awesome! interview here

LA BOUND!

So just finished matting and framing my prints for the LA Veterans Art Show next week and they are looking good! Joining me on this journey is my boy Alfonso Monroy. We got places to and people to network with. Our other purpose there is to make connections with industry professionals and sort of establish ourselves there. We fina cruise around LA after the show and soak up the weather and atmosphere. Mad props for my homeboy Daniel for spreading the word about this show and letting us stay at his crib. Stay tuned for some action shots. Peace

Devil's Lake

So we took advantage of our camping trip this past weekend to knock out some landscape shots and to see if we can find some climbers to shoot. We lucked out because our campsite neighbors were actually there to climb! So we invited them over and asked if we can shoot them for portfolio purposes and that we will email them a copy of the photos, they were all for it. Some of the shots are behind the scenes and shots of the climbers themselves. Enjoy!

TESTING TESTING, 1,2,3 TESTING

So I got this big shoot going down tomorrow and I wanted to setup before the party arrives. I decided to go with a three light setup for the shoot. I am a huge fan of this setup because there is nice separation from subject to background. It also gives a nice rim of light on both sides of the subject making easy to bring the subject into another background. Using (2) Calumet 750ws mono lights through softboxes, a Nikon SB-25 speedlight through a 3ft octa. I am really digging the light and its fair enough to say that the images will come out pretty dope. On my next post i will go over the gear I usually carry with me and tips and tricks to get that perfect lighting. Holla!

THE IMPOSSIBLE!

So lately I have been messing around with Polaroid's and different techniques on how to make them look unique. So I went to my trusty source (YouTube) and saw some how to and hack videos for my spectra. I was stoked to find that I was able to capture double exposures with a Polaroid camera. Awesomeness followed! So I decided to make a series of these shots by using local talent (my school) and use hot lights in the studio. I know some of you may be wondering how the hell do you find the film for these cameras. Well let me tell you. Its called the Impossible Project. I found out about this a while ago and decided to pull the trigger on it and let me tell you, it did not disappoint. I found a local dealer (Central Camera) who stocked it and bought a couple packs of it. I started shooting with it sparingly because its about $3 a shot and 8 shots per pack. So yeah, its freakin pricey. What can I say, I'm discovering my fine artsy side! Click here for the rest of the shots. Holla
